SLCKR x SharpFade Collaboration: How it came to be

What's up guys,

Tyler here. I'm checking in a day before we launch our social media campaign for our SharpFade collaboration to tell the story of how it came to be.

Byrd, otherwise known as SharpFade himself, was introduced to us relatively early on in SLCKR's existence. Our friend Josh (@empoweringcuts_) had introduced us to Byrd one day when we were sitting together in the studio trying to brainstorm on some different selling methods. We had a quick facetime and I had the opportunity to connect with Byrd again on the phone. Since then, Byrd has taken us under his wing despite his crazy schedule as the Wahl International Creative Director.

In one of our conversations, we were chatting about the 2021 SharpFade Freshman Class Project. For those of you that are not familiar, the Freshman Class calls for barbers with under 25K in following to produce a series of 3 photos and a 60 second video based around a theme. The submissions draw inspiration rooted in hair, fashion, and culture to bring a vision to life. The Project allows contestants exposure to a large audience, but, more importantly, encourages them to dig deep and create beyond the chair.

As Byrd and I were talking one day, he brought up two themes he was considering for his Freshman Class project. One of these themes was Desert Storm. Now, I had been looking for a reason to launch a new colorway for a while and, if you know me, you know I love everything khaki colored. I suggested to Byrd that we make a special edition Desert Storm rig to awards to the recipients of the 2021 Freshman Class and he agreed. With only two months to put something together, we got to work immediately.

What you'll see over the next week is a result of the two months of work. We had to dig deep and work quickly, pulling inspiration from all over. From 5 special edition rigs, to custom made, wood burned ammo crates, to personal typewritten letters, we were determined to create something special and memorable for the 5 members of the 2021 SharpFade Freshman Class. I think we did just that.

Until next time,

Tyler
